Bigtreetech have sent over (disclaimer, free of charge at my request for a probe video) a set of their new Eddy probes.

That’s a lot of Eddies

It looks like what I’ve been sent are two usb versions, and a coil + CAN version with the CAN board, which I think is sold separately.

I’m likely to use the USB version, at least for my testing.

Looking online, Eddy seems pretty cheap compared to other probes, so if it works well it would make it a very decent solution to bed meshing.

What’s an Eddy?

It’s an Eddy probe. It uses magnetic induction to probe a surface, in this case to judge the distance.

The main benefit of these probes is that they are non contact, and they are much faster than other probe types.

How do you use it?

Good question. No idea yet. I believe you just plug it into the usb and then refer to the instructions here which seem comprehensive enough, if complicated. These are for klipper. Which most people buying Eddy will run.

How well does it perform?

That…is for a future video.
