Well, it was a busy week at Lost HQ, with a new machine arriving from Bambu Lab under high secrecy. It was of course the new Bambu Lab P1S, an enclosed printer, and as it happens, a direct competitor to Creality’s new offering, the K1.

The P1S boasts a speed slightly lower than the K1 on paper at 500mm/s, but in reality the difference won’t be noticeable.

The interior at 256mm cubed is just enough to print a rainbow P1S slide.

What some prospective buyers might find disappointing: The P1S retains the lackluster screen that the P1P has. This screen is functional, for the most part, but nowhere near as useful or impressive to use as the original X1C screen.

The P1S Screen is….less than impressive

In most other respects, the machine is more like an X1C than it is a P1P. It has the side fan, the enclosure of course, the camera and a multi material version is available as a P1S Combo for around $250 more.

Costs have, of course, been cut. The nozzle is steel like the P1P, not the hardened steel of the X1C, and the same apparently goes for the extruder gears. And the sides are plastic on the cheaper model instead of metal.

For most use cases I doubt you would even notice though.

An interesting choice is to swap the black PEI print sheet from the P1P out for a gold one. I have no idea why, but it works well and shows darker prints better (presumably) on the 0.5fps on board camera.

Indeed, this makes the P1S not only a formidable machine in the Bambu line up, but a formidable machine for the consumer market at large. Your move, Creality.

You can buy a P1S for $699 (£639) or a P1S Combo for $949 (£869) and support me by following this link
